Stade de Reims is renowned not only for its rich history but also for its legendary players like Just Fontaine. Born in 1933 in Marrakech, Just Fontaine joined Stade de Reims in 1956 after a successful stint at Nice. At that time, the Champagne club was one of the best teams in Europe, and Fontaine quickly became a cornerstone of the team. His partnership with Raymond Kopa helped Stade de Reims win several French championship titles and shine on the European stage.

In 1959, Stade de Reims reached the final of the European Champions Cup, where they faced the legendary Real Madrid. Although they lost, this performance remains etched in memory as one of the greatest feats of French football. However, it was during the 1958 World Cup in Sweden that Just Fontaine truly made history. He scored 13 goals in six matches, a record that remains unmatched to this day.

Fontaine scored three goals against Paraguay, two against Yugoslavia, one against Northern Ireland, two against West Germany, one against Pelé's Brazil, and four in the third-place match against Germany. With a total of 30 goals in just 21 appearances, he showcased his exceptional talent. Unfortunately, his career was prematurely interrupted by injuries, forcing him to retire at the age of 28.

Despite this early retirement, Just Fontaine's legacy at Stade de Reims and in French football remains intact. He is regarded as one of the greatest scorers of all time and an icon of the club. Stade de Reims continues to celebrate his legacy, reminding everyone of the impact Fontaine had on football and on the club itself.
