Stade de Reims was one of the most performing French clubs in Europe in the 1950s. The club reached two Champions League finals, but was beaten by Real Madrid both times. The first final left regrets, as Reims led 2-0 after 10 minutes of play, but ultimately lost 4-3. Since then, the club has not managed to reach the top of European football. After its last appearance in C1 in 1963-1964, Reims returned briefly to the forefront in 2020, but was quickly eliminated in the Europa League qualifying rounds. The club was also beaten by OGC Nice, which was one of the two French clubs to significantly shine at the birth of the European Cup of Club Champions.
