Despite a satisfactory season with a young team, Stade de Reims women's team, currently in the Second League, should drop to the regional level next season. However, Stade de Reims assures guaranteeing the development of women's football by focusing on young players and training. It is now official, Stade de Reims will no longer evolve at the professional level in its women's section. At least, not for now. After two years of uncertainty about the future of the Reims team, particularly since the departure of Amandine Miquel, the first team seemed to decline, first through sporting relegation and with increasingly limited means. A statement from Stade de Reims confirmed the dynamic on Friday: « The constant evolution of regulatory, organizational, and structural requirements, imposed in a global French football economic context particularly constrained, does not allow the club to maintain the registration of the first team in a national championship ». Arguments and financial issues that suggest that the women's section, without a viable economic model, remains an adjustment variable. A situation that the players have difficulty coping with. « When we noticed a progressive disengagement from the club over the past two seasons, we said nothing », the players replied via the UNFP earlier in the day. On the pitch, however, the Rémoises fought until the last day of the season to maintain the team in an ultimate victory against Lille in the Second League. Sports exploits that will not pay off next season. No, the stadium does not abandon the girls, but no, the information relayed is not false. However, if the professional world is extinguished, Stade de Reims has attached itself to remind that it did not abandon women's football. « No, Stade de Reims does not stop its women's section (...). The club is indeed fully committed to the development of the practice and will continue to evolve, at the heart of the Raymond Kopa Life Center, more than a hundred licensed players », prioritizing training. An engagement that could allow them to keep some subsidies, but which contests, says the statement, « information relayed in recent hours ». The clarification sought confirms, however, the revelations read and heard elsewhere.
